Easter Bread from my Italian Momma

1/2 cup of milk. ( I used 1% )
1/2 cup of sugar ( I used monk fruit)
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
Grated peel of 2 lemons or oranges
2 pks of active dry yeast
1/2 cup of warm water
2 eggs at room temp
4 1/2 cup of all purpose flour
egg wash
colors sprinkles


Scald milk and then add sugar, shortening , salt and fruit peel. Cool to luke warm.
Sprinkle yeast on warm water and stir to dissolve. Ounce your yeast is activated add milk mixture and both eggs and mix to combine.   Add 2 1/2 cups of flour  to a bowl on mixer with a dough hook attached, Add milk mixture  and combine until dough begins to form and add the remaining flour a little at a time until combined . KEEP IN MIXER AND KNEEED IN MIXER FOR 5 MINS or you you can knead on a floured  surface. Place dough in a old bowl and place in a warm place for one hour , Punch down and either place in2  loaf pans or make into braid  and cover for another half hour to rise. Pre-heat oven to 375  . Brush with egg wash and add sprinkles' and bake for 20 mins
after bread is done remove from oven and remove from pans and cool completely,
Make a glaze with powered sugar and milk ( I use powdered monk fruit and water ) and glaze bread.


In video I halved this recipe and made I loaf . If you get 14 slices it come to 3 sp on Blue if you get 12 slices its 4 sp on blue
